My brother and I know our maternal side . We know nothing about our paternal side. We know our great grandfather name. Have his death certificate. I was thinking of doing the Ancestry DNA. My brother and I were looking at the Y-DNA. What are your thoughts

I think taking an AncestryDNA test would be a great way to start exploring the paternal side of your family. If you hit a brick wall trying to find one of your father's direct male ancestors, then having your brother do a Y-DNA test could be helpful. For example, I haven't been able to find the parents or birthplace of my ancestor Samuel Dulaney, who died in 1812. I just sent a Y-DNA kit to one of Samuel's direct male descendants to see if the Y-DNA results can help us identify Samuel's father and where he was from. Good luck with your search and let me know how I can help!
